Plus, we can provide specialist pruning of fruit trees. We also offer hard landscaping such as decking, paving, tiling, hoggin laying and bespoke woodworking. Clients engage us for 'one-off ' transformational projects and for ongoing support, whereby a garden is improved gradually over a period of time. We also offer a specialist lawn care service. About Thyme Gardening specialises in designing, building and maintaining private gardens. Our aim is to transform drab, barren and overgrown gardens into vibrant, beautiful and sustainable spaces to be enjoyed by all visitors.
The About Thyme Gardening Team
Peter Attended the Manea School of Gardening studying and passing level 2 RHS qualifications The Certificate in Practical Horticulture and Certificate in the Principles of Plant Growth and Development which incorporates the Certificate in the Principles of Plant Growth and development and theLevel 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture. Peter has years of gardening experience, including working as a WRAGS trainee gardener at Churchill University College, Cambridge. Peter gave up his job in business to re-train and set up About Thyme Gardening so that he could do what he loves. He is absolutely passionate about garden design and the upkeep of beautiful gardens. Central to his approach is an appreciation that beautiful, low maintenance, successful gardens need to relate to their environment, the buildings and their surroundings, and their owners' needs and wishes. His designs 'work' horticulturally and aesthetically.
Gill Gill is currently studying for her RHS Level 2 qualifications. She has a wealth of practical gardening experience and plant knowledge and works regularly with Peter in gardens around Cambridge. Henry Henry runs his own company H. E. Shepherd Fencing Ltd but has become heavily involved working with About Thyme Gardening. Henry has 14 years experience in hard landscaping and as well as being the best fencer I have seen he and his team can provide a full hard landscaping service including bespoke timber buildings, Brick laying, roofing, Patio and path laying, Driveways, resin drives and paths and can also do tree work and stump removal.
For some projects, About Thyme Gardening works with its network of skilful and trusted contractors, including tree surgeons and electricians.
The About Thyme Gardening Approach
We work on the ethos of “right plant, right place” that gives our clients colour and interest in their gardens throughout the seasons.
We have a superb knowledge of plants and trees, and About Thyme Gardening creates gardens that are viewed as spaces to be planted rather than areas to be laid to hard landscaping. Whenever possible, we provide plants grown in this country by certified growers ensuring our work's carbon footprint is as low as possible. This is very important to us, as is using local suppliers and growers.
We use the best locally sourced certified weed, pest and disease free plants and trees grown in the UK. We use locally sourced, screened topsoil, nutrient enriched soils, organic mulches and aggregates.
We design and plant up entire gardens, or individual beds and schemes as required by our clients. After an initial consultation and site survey, we deliver a design service including soft and hard landscaping suggestions, plus a planting plan.
We provide garden maintenance for our design clients who may not have enough time or the knowledge to maintain their beautiful garden. We also garden for clients how have grown or designed their own gardens, but for a range of reasons cannot maintain them ongoing.
We recommend water features. Water fascinates and captivates like no other garden feature. Its movement, reflections and sound bring an appealing mix of new sensations to a garden. Water also offers our clients the chance to grow a different range of plants that attracts insects and other wildlife to their gardens, whether we have installed a natural pond or contemporary structure.
